Blueberries can be a great item for both their taste and their antioxidants. Here are a few fast ideas to get them into your diet. Throw them into your cereal or oatmeal. Toss them into a salad. Have some with Greek yogurt and honey. Or, just pop a few into your mouth and eat them like candy!
How to pick Blueberries
Look for berries with deep blueish purple hue and a lightly waxy surface. The berries should be plump and not shriveled. There should not be any green on the berries themselves. Also look for berries that do not have a lot of moisture in the container. Moisture leads to mold. Pick the container up and look at it from the bottom. Make sure you don’t see any mold or evidence of rotting fruit. Lastly, taste them!
Best Storage for berries
Keep them in the produce drawer of the refrigerator. Also, keep them in the container they came in. They will allow the berries to breathe.
To wash or not to wash
Washing berries before eating them is always a good idea. Just make sure you wash them just before serving, and you wash only what is meant to be consumed. Storing wet berries will shorten the shelf life of the product.
Here’s one of my favorite ways to enjoy these healthy summer berries:
Blueberry Blast Smoothie
