Nestled in the Andes Mountain at an elevation of 8,661 feet above sea level, Bogota is the capital city of Columbia. After La Paz in Bolivia and Quito in Ecuador, Bogota is the third-highest capital city in the world. What does that elevation feel like in Hawaiian terms? Haleakala on Maui reaches an elevation of just over 10,000 feet above sea level at the highest peak. That means Bogota is just about a quarter of a mile lower than the highest peak of Haleakala! Imagine a city of over 7 million at an elevation just shy of the Haleakala summit and that’s Bogota! The elevation of Bogota makes for a consistently cool climate (57°F average) that is ideal for growing roses. Compare the warm to hot average Honolulu temperature with the cool to cold average Bogota temperature and it’s no wonder Bogota is known for roses and Honolulu is known for hibiscus☺. Each week we bring in half dozen and full dozen South American roses from Bogota.
This week is an extra special week as we have a double dozen (24 stems!) of South American Bogota roses for just $15.99. Come in. Check them out. Let us know what you think.
